Royal AM coach John Maduka says everyone deserves a second chance after the club handed the Nkanyiso Zungu a lifeline to revive his career.
As reported by this website, Zungu is currently being assessed by Royal AM after he was released by Orlando Pirates at the end of last season.
The Buccaneers had loaned him to Richards Bay FC last season but he didn’t last long in the north of KwaZulu-Natal, close to his home, as he was released in April by Bay due to off-field issues.
Zungu featured in the starting XI when AM lost 2-0 to AmaZulu, his former club, in the KZN Premier’s Cup’s elimination match at Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium on Saturday.
He showed glimpses that he still got it, releasing those stylish defence-splitting passes for Royal AM, who were lightweight after they released many players last term.
“[A] very good and talented player, something that he brings to our team,” said Maduka after the KZN Premier’s Cup loss.
“We hope that things will just go well and you can tell he’s hungry enough to play. It is good that we have a player of calibre on our side.”
Despite knowing that Zungu has written headlines for the wrong reasons in the past with reports that he was found under the influence of alcohol by Bay’s management, which led to his release, Maduka believes everyone deserves a second chance.
“He’s a human being and human beings make mistakes,” said the Thwihli Thwahla” coach.
“So we are happy to have him and he wants to play football.”
When asked whether Zungu and others have signed for the club, Maduka replied: “We are still going to unveil them.”
This website also understands that Sibusiso Sibeko, who was released by relegated side Marumo Gallants, and eSwatini international Mxolisi Mkhonto are training with Royal AM.
The KZN side can currently still sign players since their transfer ban over the case of former striker Samir Nurkovic was temporarily suspended by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) where Royal AM have lodged an official appeal.
