Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Cassius Mailula has shed light on why his time at KV Kortrijk failed to work out as expected.
The 25-year-old joined the Jupiler Pro League club in 2025 on loan from Toronto FC but struggled for regular playing time, eventually returning to the Brazilians.

Mailula says one of the reasons his spell proved difficult was that Kortrijk did not have a clear plan for how to utilise him or get the best out of his strengths.
“From my perspective, I think it’s a matter of a club having a plan around you,” said Mailula on Metro FM.
“It’s about knowing when they want you, how are they going to use you because they know my qualities before I come to the club.
“For me it’s about that also if you use me, use me to my strength. That’s it, the rest, you can never doubt the talent.
“It was just the matter of getting that opportunity and for me to grab it.”
Mailula further admitted that he was disappointed after things had not turned out the way he had hoped.
“Yeah, of course [I was sad], every player wants to do well,” he added.
“When you are in an environment where this is what you’ve always wanted, you want to show the world that and give the club that brought you there something.”
