Mammila – Why I Went Hard On Ndwandwe

Chippa United head coach Morgan Mammila went hard on midfielder Menzi Ndwandwe after conceding a soft free-kick which resulted in Cape Town City’s winner on Tuesday evening.

It was a tight contest at DHL stadium after City took the lead going to the break after Thabiso Kutumela scored his first goals for the club with a brilliant shot.

The Chili Boys came out guns blazing in the second half, as they were looking for the equaliser and they got rewarded in the 67th minute after a top-notch volley from Craig Martin.

Both sides continued to look for a winner but both goalkeepers made some brilliant saves. However, right at the death, Chippa’s Ndwandwe conceded a free-kick after he deliberately handled the ball inside his own half.

Marc Van Heerden took the free-kick, and Khanyisa Mayo finished it with a lovely header to make it 2-1 for the hosts.

Mammila was left frustrated with his striker and admitted that he went in hard on his striker because he didn’t just give the free-kick away but also didn’t mark properly.

“Let’s be honest they same player who make that handball is facing the other way around, he is taller than the other player, I don’t know why, not at this stage,” Mammila told iDiski Times.

“There’s four referees, the lights are clear, it’s not like [in the] olden days where Maradona will score with the hand, these days it’s visible, everyone can see.

“He was exposed, and I feel sorry for the young man, he’s not himself. But also I went hard on him because he had to learn and for that I shouted [at] him a lot.

“One thing for sure I told him he must go rectify himself and how? He must start to rectify those mistakes so that he can learn.

“I’m a teacher when a student makes a mistake you teach him in a right way, you give him confidence so that he will become a better student and a better player.”

Chippa now sit in seventh place on the log, having collected 14 points from 11 games, while City climbed into fourth with 19 points from the same amount of matches.
