Mamelodi Sundowns coach Manqoba Mnqgithi says he would prefer to chase the title than be chased this season.
Sundowns moved within three points of Orlando Pirates after six games played, after their 3-0 win over Cape Town City on Wednesday evening.
Pirates have won six from six, and there’s talk brewing it could continue with the kind of form they have gained early in the 2024/25 season.
“Personally I prefer to chase, personally… because you always have a target, and we have been that target for far too long,” he said.
“But when you are there, you must never slip up. So I think it will be better to chase, it will be better to chase [the title].”
The Masandawana boss went on to discuss the improvements of several teams in the league, with the likes of Polokwane City in third place, Sekhukhune United pushing amongst the top clubs and Magesi holding their own against the Soweto gaints.
“To be honest, in the first, five six matches of the season, it’s always very close to what’s happening, I’ve seen Arrows number one, I’ve seen different things in the PSL in the first 10 matches,” he added about the start of the season.
“It will be nice to see how this season is going to pan out, but one thing I can guarantee you is it’s impressive to see so many teams putting in a very good fight, it’s impressive to see at Polokwane City, Stellenbosch, Magesi…
“When you see so many teams being competitive against the big teams, that for me is a plus on our preparations for the Champions League, as you would want to play a tough match every week to makes sure you’re at a very good level for the Champions League.
“I applaud the work the coaches are doing to make life difficult for everybody else in the league, I really like that, it will help us all, ourselves and Orlando Pirates in the Champions League.”
