Martin Opens Up On Ofori Situation

AmaZulu coach Pablo Martin gave the latest update on former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Richard Ofori, who is “in talks” to join the club.

Usuthu has had a difficult start to the new season, losing their first two matches while conceding five goals.

They lost their opening match against Polokwane City in the last minute after experienced goalkeeper Veli Mothwa committed an error right at the death of the game.

Martin protected the Bafana Bafana international, stating that everybody makes mistakes and insisted that Mothwa should be supported as well. But a few days later, Usuthu are looking to rope in Ofori to offer more competition in their goalkeeper department.

On Wednesday, Olwethu Mzimela started the second league match, as the KwaZulu Natal-based side lost 3-1 to Chiefs.

After the game, Martin confirmed that Ofori is indeed with them and they are in talks about signing him as he is also keen to join the side after he hasn’t played for over six months.

“He came two days ago, he has been training with the team, he is a great goalkeeper with a lot of experience in PSL, Africa, and the national team,” Martin told the media.

“I know him well because – I don’t know if you remember this – but he was the one sending me home in the quarter-final in CAF when we played here with Simba SC vs Orlando Pirates he saved two penalties on top of that he scored the winner.

“He is a player who hasn’t been playing for such a long period of time so we want to look at him, he is keen to sign for us let’s see what happens in the upcoming hours, he is a free agent.

“It’s a discussion that the club director of football, the technical staff, and the player they need to have and see if we can reach an agreement.”
