He won the PSL Players’ Player of the Season honour after scoring 10 goals with 12 assists in 40 games in his debut season.
While he’s yet to hit that sort of heights this season, scoring once in eight games, he remains one of the first names on the teamsheet for head coach Jose Riveiro in a fluid attacking system.
After the 3-0 win over Polokwane City, he named the former SuperSport, Pirates, Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City star as his role model.
“For me, it’s got to be Teko Modise, because I grew up watching him and the way he plays, the way he dresses, for me was a key point in my career, I always wanted to be like him,” Maswanganyi said on SuperSport TV.
“I always tried to copy him but we are different people and I have to be myself sometimes but he played a big role in my life so I had to adjust and try to be like him, so yeah.”
Maswanganyi was named in the preliminary Bafana Bafana squad named by Hugo Broos on Tuesday afternoon set to face Congo Brazzaville home and away next month in the upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
