Mamelodi Sundowns right-back Zuko Mdunyelwa admitted that he couldn’t believe he was crowned a league champion until the club lifted the trophy.
Mdunyelwa bagged his first DStv Premiership gold medal barely less than six months after joining Sundowns from Chippa United. He featured in 12 matches across all competitions since his arrival at Chloorkop.
The 25-year-old reflected on his journey in football with iDiski Times senior writer Velile Mnyandu in edition 162 of the newspaper, saying it makes winning the league all worth it.
The former South Africa junior international added that he is not taking winning the title for granted as he knows a lot of players who’ve had longer careers are yet to even touch the trophy.

“It wasn’t until I lifted the trophy that I believed I was a champion,” Mdunyelwa told iDiski Times.
“The medal is just the tip of an iceberg based on the struggles I’ve had off the scenes and eventually making it through and becoming a champion in South African football. Winning the league is such an emotional thing for me.
“I appreciate it more than anything else because there are players who have been in the PSL for the past seven years who never had a chance to touch that trophy to win that medal. For me to be granted an opportunity like that, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
