Marumo Gallants striker Gabadinho Mhango has revealed why he enjoyed working with coach Gavin Hunt.
The two worked together at the now defunct Bidvest Wits between 2016 and 2019 where the Malawi international made 52 league appearances and scored 14 goals with two assists.
The 32-year-old who has been somewhat of a journey man since his arrival in South Africa told iDiski Times writer Lethabo Kganyago in edition 199 of the newspaper that Hunt stands out from the coaches he worked with because of the trust and freedom he gives his players.
“You know I worked with so many coaches,” Mhango told iDiski Times.
“Like I said, every coach has their own style of playing football. There’s a coach like Gavin [Hunt]. Gavin is a coach that I think I enjoyed when we were together because he allows players to do their best.
“And he tells players, that ‘I’m not going to teach you a lot. You know football. You were born to be a footballer, do your best.’
“There are so many coaches that I have been with, from [Orlando] Pirates, [Bidvest] Wits, [Bloemfontein] Celtic and all. All coaches have played a part in my journey of football. And the new coach that has come just now is a coach from overseas.
“I think he’s in France. He was coaching Morocco and all these other countries. So, I think he is a coach that has ambition, which is to achieve in football and he has something that is different from Africa.
“He is a guy that pushes hard and he wants every player to be the best and to be on top of the level.”
