Mngqithi Opens Up On Surprise Signings On Arrows Roster

Golden Arrows head coach Manqoba Mngqithi says he doesn’t know how the club managed to sign players from Royal AM but are happy to have them part of his squad.

Shadrack Kobedi (29), Ayabulela Maxwele (24), were surprise names listed on the Arrows bench in their 2-1 win over Kaizer Chiefs at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday.

Highly rated winger Sabelo Sithole (22), has also said to have resurfaced at the club amidst the turmoil of the club that has been under the curatorship of the South African Revenue Service on sale, and inactive since December 2024 due to owner Shawn Mkhize’s rising debts with SARS.

“I do not know how we got them, but I was happy to have them, as to how it happened, the mechanisms, I can’t tell you, but the truth is, it’s pleasing to have them,” he said.

“I don’t know I was not part of the process. They are brilliant players; they are going to add value to our squad.

“Even Sithole could have played today but we felt physically we put him under a lot of stress over the last two weeks, few days maybe – where we really pushed most of these boys to the limits, as we were trying to improve the condition of the team.

“So, they can play this very intensive game, they were not used to it, so we thought we might lose a player, if we stretch him into a game of this intensity, that’s why he was not in the team but we’re very happy to have him as well.”
