Moroka Swallows boss David Mogashoa has given more details on why the potential sponsorship with Goldrush fell through, saying it was NOT declined by the league, as he initially told this publication.
Mogashoa had said PSL lawyer Michael Murphy stopped the deal before it went to the PSL executive, the highest body that makes decisions on behalf of the league, which is chaired by PSL chairman Irvin Khoza and acting CEO Mato Madlala.
This after everything between Goldrush and Swallows was agreed, but Goldrush did not sign the declaration form that was furnished to them by the league’s lawyer Murphy, which talks about match-fixing and many other issues.
Unlike other sponsorships, this was treated differently because it is a betting company and they had to agree on some of the PSL’s rules and regulations, but they could not, leading to the deal falling off the cliff.
Goldrush’s deal was treated in the same way as Golden Arrows’ 10Bet sponsorship since it is a betting company, which was the first that was agreed upon by the Exco but unlike Goldrush 10Bet signed the declaration form.
“If you are a betting company, to make sure that you are going to abide by the rules and constitution of the league, now they [Goldrush] did not want to sign that declaration form,” said Mogashoa to iDiski Times.
“The meeting was arranged with Michael Murphy so that they can clear this thing. He explained to them [Goldrush] what the declaration form meant but they still didn’t sign.
“It’s like there is an agreement with the club, but they have not met the league requirements to go further. It is not like Michael Murphy said, ‘No, we don’t want you guys’.
“He said, ‘Fulfill this part and we can go ahead’ and that is exactly what it is. Because, before everything goes to Exco, it goes through first to Michael Murphy to make sure that it meets the legal requirements.
“This one did not – simply because the declaration was the missing part.”
Mogashoa is already in hot water with the PSL after his club asked the league to cancel two matches in December against Mamelodi Sundowns and Golden Arrows, respectively in December due to non-payment of the players who then refused to play.
His players, who refused to play those matches, will face the club’s internal DC on Friday, which will be done remotely since all of them are scattered in different places due to being on holidays.
