Mohafe Makes Appollis & Matuludi Wish

Polokwane City head coach Phuti Mohafe says he wishes to keep Thabang Matuludi and Oswin Appollis for another season with the January transfer window fast approaching.

Appollis and Matuludi were targets of the likes of Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in the past transfer window, but none of the moves materialised.

After Appollis helped Bafana Bafana to qualify for AFCON2025 with a six-goal contributions in six matches, it is expected that teams will again be gunning for his signature.

Meanwhile, Matuludi just missed out on the final squad twice after Mamelodi Sundowns defender Khuliso Mudau and SuperSport United defender Nyiko Mobbie were called over him. The City defender kept his head down and produced Man of the Match performances.

“I’m more than happy to still have them in the team because they are the core, and they are the most important players for us, even though those guys are touting for them,” Mohafe told the media.

“So I think it’s a blessing in disguise for Polokwane City to still have them. And as for how long they are going to be with us, that one, I don’t know. That one, I don’t know, but I just so wish that they can still be with us for another season.”

Mohafe then added that his side need to show their mentality if they continuously want to fight for the top eight.

“We need to be as stubborn, as stubborn as a horse. We need to be resilient. And these teams, when we play them, they must know that they are playing another big team,” he added.

“They must not say this team is still a small team. Now we regard ourselves as a big team because we qualified for the top eight.

“So, the top eight is not for the small teams. So we regard ourselves as the big team, so we must maintain the standard.”
