Sekhukhune United and Bafana Bafana winger Elias Mokwana envisioned this rise while in the ABC Motsepe League and said his R35-million price tag is not of his concern.
The 24-year-old was plying his trade in the third-tier three years ago with Platinum City Rovers before earning promotion via the playoffs.
His exploits in the Motsepe Foundation Championship earned him a move to the DStv Premiership with Babina Noko, where he’s now emerged as a key player and securing him a place in the senior national team set-up under head coach Hugo Broos.
“I did envision this [rise] I always told my mom that I’ve had a dream of winning a world cup, so now I’m working on that dream, hopefully, we’ll qualify for it,” Mokwana said on Thursday at OR Tambo after their return from Algeria.
“I’ve always had dreams to play abroad [too] and hopefully I will get that chance to play abroad.”
When pressed about the price tag, which iDiski Times had been informed of earlier this season from sources within the hierarchy of Sekhukhune, he stated: “Ah, I don’t know about my price tag.
“I’m just here to play football you know, I don’t know – it will go with my agent and my team because I’m still contracted to them.”
