Mokwena Confirms Three Sundowns Additions

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Rulani Mokwena has confirmed three new additions to his first-team squad ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Sundowns has returned to South Africa after a successful pre-season in the Netherlands which finished with a draw and three wins ahead of their season opener against Sekhukhune United on Friday.

While there’s been excitement over new signings Junior Mendieta, Lesiba Nku, Lucas Ribeiro Costa, Thapelo Maseko and Bathusi Aubaas – Mokwena also confirmed three of their former loanees will form part of their squad this coming season.

“The season looks extremely competitive not only because of the improvement of some of the teams in the league, [but] a lot of our rivals have strengthened their squads,” he told the club’s website.

“They’ve improved their teams with some very good players, of course we’ve done the same, we’ve improved the squad with players like [Junior] Mendieta, Lesiba Nku and Lucas Ribeiro.

“These are really, really players that give us different options from a formation perspective and positional perspective.

“We also have the return of some of the players that were out on loan like Divine [Lunga], Samy Seabi and Jody [February ], they are part of the squad for this season.”

Sundowns face off against last season’s Nedbank Cup finalists at the Peter Mokaba Stadium tomorrow at 19h30.
