Kaizer Chiefs defender Given Msimango has waxed lyrical over Luke Fleurs, who is yet to make his official debut for the club.
Fleurs was surprisingly released by SuperSport United before being snapped up by Amakhosi in late October – and four months later he awaits his first bow.
The 23-year-old is widely considered as one of the most talented defenders in the country but some issues plagued his development at Matsatsansa where at one point he was on the fringes of the Bafana Bafana squad and talked about of a European transfer.
“Luke, ma’sweetie, fantastic individual, great human being, fantastic teammate. He’s slowly getting where he needs to be in terms of fitness,” Msimango said.
“He’s showing it in training, he’s working hard and I’m happy for him, I’m happy to be his teammate and for him to be here at this club.
“From a fitness and conditioning perspective, I think he’s ready [to play], he’s ready, he can play whenever the coach needs him to play. It’s just at the moment, the partnerships [in defence] are doing well.
“I think when an opportunity comes for him to come in and prove his worth, arises, he will step up to the challenge.”
Fleurs racked up 70 appearances for SuperSport over his five-year stint after joining the club from Cape Town-based Ubuntu Academy.
