Mthethwa Opens Up On Chiefs Move

New Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Sibongiseni ‘Ox’ Mthethwa has opened up about his move to Amakhosi, saying they had been in contact in previous windows but he let his agent handle everything to avoid distractions.

Mthethwa was the ninth signing for Chiefs this season, completing a three year deal from Stellenbosch in September 2021.

So far, he has featured two times for Molefi Ntseki’s side and the 26-year-old spoke about his move to iDiski Times senior writer Lorenz Köhler in the current edition of the newspaper.

“They first contacted me maybe a week before the window closed, this window [that has passed]. I always told my agent, even if they called, they must talk to him,” Mthethwa told iDiski Times.

“I didn’t want distractions, you understand? I waited for something solid, so when they contacted me when it became [apparent] they might sign me, so they spoke to the club and my agent.

“I was not allowed to speak to them when I was contracted to Stellenbosch.”

Mthethwa, though, admitted that it was a tough decision to leave Stellenbosch FC where he was the vice-captain and among the fan favourites.

“It wasn’t easy to leave Stellies, even now I am trying to push myself and forget that and focus on Chiefs,” he added.

“Even now, Stellenbosch still stings in my head, it’s the memories I had with them. But for now, I need to open a new leaf.”

You can read Mthethwa’s full interview with Köhler in edition 126 of the newspaper, which also includes a special Mthethwa poster, available on iDiski Times website.
