Cape Town City head coach Muhsin Ertuğral has stated his credentials for the job being questioned is disrespectful.
Ertuğral, 65, returned to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) with City to succeed Eric Tinkler as an interim coach before taking over as Technical Director at the end of the season.
After three years as a Technical Advisor to the Turkish national team, his time at City has come with mixed results.
He won the Coach of the Month honour after major wins over Kaizer Chiefs and Pirates, but is now on a run with five games without a win in all competitions and he was left offended when asked whether the game has evolved beyond him over the past years.
“I was on the head [of technical] of the Turkish national team, do you think that I’m not on the same line of international football… I may not have been directly on the field but I was very much involved in two European championships, World Cup qualifiers, with the best players in the world,” he said when asked about being out management for four years.
“So that means I’m out of the game? That question I think is a bit bias… unbelievable. Which coach that comes to the PSL from overseas has come from a national team. There’s some stripes here. Google a bit back, there’s seven trophies in my cabinet.
“Seven trophies, so I can lecture a bit, I was doing that for the Turkish national team, i was not out of the game, I think this was disrespectful what you said.”
City now turn their attention to AmaZulu who they will face in Durban at the King Zwelithini Stadium next Sunday.
