Nabi Clarifies ‘Lack Of Number 9 At Chiefs’ Comment

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has opened up on the challenges in his attacking department saying a lack of a physically strong and tall striker contributed to their league loss to Richards Bay over the weekend.

Amakhosi were without strikers Tashreeq Morris and Ranga Chivaviro in the 2-0 defeat to Richards Bay with the coach admitting on their challenges like fighting for the ball and penetrating a low block.

Nabi clarified that it’s not that he wants to particularly sign a big number nine player because that’s not going to solve all the problems they have in the area.

“I didn’t say I’m looking for a number nine, I said we were lacking physicality and height in the number 9 position,” said Nabi in the post-match press conference carried on Ayanda Nyuswa’s YouTube channel.

“And we feel that probably with the absence of Morris or Ranga maybe it could have helped. But it doesn’t mean that the number nine could have resolved all the issues today because we should have been more dangerous in the last 18.

“We should have had more shots against a low block.

I think the answer of that question will come after the end of the season after having assessed the squad and what it needs.”
