Nabi – I Think Ox Understood This When I Came

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has opened up on the future of Sibongiseni Mthethwa after his impressive performances at the Home of Legends Cup.

‘Ox’ was deemed surplus to requirements after pre-season and was strongly linked with a loan move to Magesi in the transfer window.

However, the move failed to materialise, leaving the South Africa international midfielder in limbo at Amakhosi.

But his display during the FIFA International break, particularly against Mamelodi Sundowns, served as a reminder of why they lured him to the club from Stellenbosch.

“You understand with Ox… in pre-season when I came, I think Ox understood he won’t be a starting eleven player,” Nabi explained.

“Maybe mentally this affected Ox, after that I have seen him improve his morale, giving maximum in training for a comeback, he’s got a specific profile, different from the other midfielders.

“My game needs specific qualities from some players, but Ox’s profile, he has quality, he offers balance to the team but right now he understands [the situation] he has competition and it’s open for all players [to impress].”

The 30-year-old defensive midfielder will be aiming for some regular minutes in the next couple of weeks, with Edson Castillo out with a long-term injury due to a fractured tibula.
