Nabi Touts Chiefs Star For Bafana After Broos Spotted In PLK

Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi admits Gaston Sirino was not fully fit but when he is, he could add value to Bafana Bafana.

The South Africa national team coach Hugo Broos was spotted on Saturday at the Peter Mokaba Stadium as SuperSport United edged Chiefs 1-0 in the league.

There have been suggestions that Sirino is being monitored for a national team call-up after securing his citizenship, and due to the recent long-term injury of Themba Zwane.

But it wasn’t the best performance from the former Mamelodi Sundowns playmaker in front of the coach who was nominated this week for the CAF Best Men’s Coach of the Year.

“We believe that the national coach was not here only for Sirino because in SuperSport and Kaizer Chiefs, there are many players who play in Bafana Bafana and those are his players,” Nabi said.

“If Sirino was part of the players he came to observe, unfortunately, it was not a good day for him to show his value because he’s been injured all week. He trained once this week, we wanted to start him to see what he can give us.

“But we were very aware that he was not fully fit, but if he is fully fit, we feel he deserves to play for Bafana Bafana.”

Broos is expected to name his preliminary squad in the coming days ahead of their fixtures against Uganda in Kampala and South Sudan at home in the final 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
