Ncikazi Questions Galaxy Over Mofokeng Tactics

Orlando Pirates interim coach Mandla Ncikazi has quested the ‘robust’ approach of TS Galaxy, stating they were targeting Relebohile Mofokeng at Orlando Stadium this afternoon.

Mofokeng, 20, has been one of the standout players in the league this season and is likely to be in contention for another Young Player of the Year and potentially Footballer of the Season honour.

But he was through the wars against the Rockets, leaving the bench with a cut mouth and at one point being headbutted during the game, which Ncikazi didn’t take kindly to after the 1-1 draw in which Bandile Shandu and Mpho Mvelase scored on the day.

“I thought it was a plan of the opponents when you have the ball players we have in our team, you could see the tarrget was Mofokeng, that’s the one bad part for me, they not playing the game but more robust tactics to deal with such a good player,” he said.

“He’s such a good player, Mofokeng, but it’s okay we have learnt, we move forward, the young players have learnt, it should continue as we grow this team, I think we’re the youngest team in the PSL, so we go on again.”

Pirates conceded with almost the last kick of the game as they continiued to offer minutes to inexperienced players, the likes of Camren Dansin, Thuso Moleleki and Boitumelo Radiopane came off the bench, while Simphiwe Selepe earned another start in midfield, with a Man of the Match award at the end of it.

“It’s the process of the club, the process left by the previous coach, the route we are taking,” he added about the wave of youth.

“Like I said – I think we’re the youngest team in the PSL, players have experience in CAF, in the Derby, young players. The future is bright for this club.”
