Orlando Pirates assistant coach Mandla Ncikazi has explained why it would be unfair to compare new Orlando Pirates striker Souaibou Marou to new Kaizer Chiefs forward Christian Saile Basomboli.
The latter has already featured three times for the Amakhosi, picking up an assist and a goal, while Marou is yet to get game-time at Pirates.
After the Nedbank Cup last-32 win over All Stars FC, Ncikazi was on media duties due to the sending off of head coach Jose Riveiro, and he rejected claims that Marou and Saile can be compared.
“The pressure comes from you guys,” he said.
“We don’t have, we’re just working at our own pace. We’re doing our adaptation in our own way.
“You cannot compare the two. I think the other guy was playing in Zambia and Zambia, speaking English, the league is different.
“He [Marou] is coming from a French-speaking country, away from our… The conditions are totally different.
“I think it will be unfair to compare the two.”
Pirates return to action on Friday when they will host Maritzburg United at Orlando Stadium. With Riveiro likely to be suspended, it will be a clash of the former Buccaneers co-head coaches Ncikazi and Fadlu Davids on the sidelines.
It remains to be seen whether Marou, who was part of Cameroon’s 2022 FIFA World Cup squad and joined the Buccaneers from Coton Sport, will finally be able to make his debut for his new side.
