Magesi FC head coach Owen Da Gama has admitted that while he waits for attackers Gift Motupa and Kgaogelo Sekgota to be in the best shape he needs to sign an experienced forward this January transfer window.
Da Gama arrived at the Limpopo side in December 2024 finding the team at the bottom of the Betway Premiership log but managed a point in his first game, away at TS Galaxy. However, the PSL rookies lost 1-0 to AmaZulu at the weekend to remain at the foot of the table with just seven points in 12 matches.

On his arrival, Da Gama emphasized on building the attack around the two who were unused subs against Usuthu. However, the coach feels that they aren’t ready and Wonderboy Makhubu needs support up front in the meantime.
“I think we need another experienced striker up-front, just to take the pressure off Makhubu because there’s too much pressure on the boy,” Da Gama answered iDiski Times when asked about strengthening the side.
“I think Gift [Motupa] is getting there but he’s not yet there. You know, you can understand how long Gift has been out of the game and he’s a quality player. If we can get Gift right and we get [Kgaogelo] Sekgota right, I think we can get there and they’re pushing hard.
“That’s why they in the 18, in the final 20 squad that’s there. They were on the bench. But also, you can realize that when the tempo of the game is too high, it’s very difficult to bring them in. So, we are slowly getting there”.

“This week we’re going to work very, very hard. It’s as simple as that. We’ve got to work harder than we’ve ever worked before. And I don’t know, my training methods are a little bit different and the players have got to get used to grinding it out. They’ve got to work just as simple as that.
“In a position like this you can play the nicest football, but you’ve got to fight your way out. You’ve got to fight for every ball. But I agree fully with you I think if we can get some help for Makhubu upfront we sign some experienced player, I think it will help us.”
