Magesi FC head coach Owen Da Gama admits that he is finally relieved they have gotten the monkey off their backs after beating Cape Town City on Saturday.
Dikwena Tsa Meetse picked up just their second win of the campaign in 16 outings as they moved from the foot of the table following a 2-0 victory in Seshego.
Mcedi Vandala opened the scoring for the hosts in the 37th minute from the penalty spot before Lehlohonolo Mtshali rounded off the scoring in the 75th minute to move into 15th spot.
Da Gama who joined the Carling Knockout Cup champions in December 2024 said they needed the win to ease the pressure and begin the real job of climbing higher on the standings.
“I’ll tell you I have been in this position before with [Orlando] Pirates, with Bloemfontein Celtic. We were bottom of the log so it’s hard just to turn that corner,” Da Gama answered iDiski Times when asked how relieved he was after the game.
“But once you turn the corner the players play with more confidence. You saw after the first goal the players came strong so it’s going to be better moving forward.

“But we had to break that ice, we had to get the monkey off our backs there. And I think it can only augur well for us moving forward but now is really when we have to out in the work and work harder.”
