Official: Durban City Confirm New Signings

Durban City have unveiled nine new signings as they prepare for life in the top-flight for the 2025/26 season under newly appointed head coach Gavin Hunt.

City, formerly known as Maritzburg United, won the Motsepe Foundation Championship and promotion to the top-flight and have begun the process of assembling a squad with Darren Keet, Brooklyn Poggenpoel and Trevor Mokwena, their first official signings.

Keet, 35, joins after the relegation of Cape Town City and was released, but will add a wealth of experience from the South African Premiership and Europe, having spent six seasons in Belgium with KV Kortrijk and OH Leuven.

Poggenpoel also joins as a free agent, having left SuperSport United before their sale to become Siwelele FC, where he impressed under Hunt, playing in the six role – with age very much on his side at 25-years-old.

Mokwena, 24, arrives from Upington City, where he was touted as one of the major talents in the second-tier, and undoubtedly would have made an impression on City, having played in the same division last season.

The KwaZulu-Natal outfit added four more players to their roster on Wednesday with former City duo Haashim Domingo and Thabo Nodada also joining up with the Motsepe Foundation champions.

In addition, Kyle Jurgens joined from Stellenbosch FC and Jean Lwamba, who was named Botswana Premier League Player of the Season and also won the golden boot, has joined from Tafic FC.

Liam De Kock and Frederik Asare are also part of the new-look squad.

“We’re pleased to welcome these players at an important moment for the club. Their different qualities and experiences will be valuable as we begin this new chapter,” Club chairman Farook Kadodia stated.
