Official: PSL Announce Major Changes

The Premier Soccer League have announced that betway has taken over to replace DStv as title sponsor, with the league now know as Betway Premiership.

PSL chairman Dr. Irvin Khoza announced those changes on Wednesday during a press conference at the PSL headquarters in Parktown.

“We now have Betway Premiership as the sponsorship of the league. Thank you very much DStv as Premiership sponsor,” Dr. Irvin Khoza stated on Wednesday.

“The league is starting on 3 August, we will be issuing the fixtures this afternoon.

“It is a three-year deal, and worth R900 million.”

Betway CEO Laurence Michel added: “This partnership is the single biggest investment in South African sport. It underlines Betway’s investment in SA sport, and SA football, in particular.”

Betway will be the fourth league sponsor in the PSL era.

Castle (SA Breweries) were the original title-sponsor of the league, but in 2007, the same year as the PSL signed it’s landmark broadcast deal, ABSA took over as title sponsor and would remain so for the next 13 years.

In 2020, ABSA opted to cancel the sponsorship and Multichoice took over, and the league became known as the DStv Premiership.
