Out-of-Favour Chiefs Star Rejected By Betway Prem Side

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa has been offered to Stellenbosch FC, while AmaZulu were looking at a potential swap deal but couldn’t agree on terms as his future at the club hangs in the balance.

Mthethwa made the biggest move of his career from Stellenbosch to Naturena in September 2023 after he had an outstanding season with the Cape Winelands side, even earning a nod in Bafana Bafana set-up.

The 30-year-old made 20 appearances in Chiefs’ dreadful 2023/24 campaign where they finished outside the top eight. But the former Black Leopards midfielder has somewhat struggled to make a mark since relocating to Gauteng.

Information gathered by this publication is that Mthethwa has been offered to his former side Stellies on a season-long loan, which the Cape Winelands side are said to have rejected. Amakhosi are said to have also held talks with AmaZulu FC over a potential swap deal but both parties could not reach an agreement.

Mthethwa was deployed in an unfamiliar role by head coach Nasreddine Nabi in a friendly against AmaTuks last week Wednesday. He started off in midfield alongside Samkelo Zwane, but was then moved to centre-back, with Njabulo Blom coming in to partner Zwane in midfield.

In their last friendly match against SuperSport United, ‘Ox’ played no part, which could indicate a decline in him becoming a regular for the upcoming season. The pairing of Blom and Zwane continued where they left off, with Edson Castillo and Yusuf Maart later replacing them.
