Pirates & Chiefs Players Chasing Rayners For Golden Boot

Orlando Pirates duo Tshegofatso Mabasa & Evidence Makgopa as well as Kaizer Chiefs starlet Mduduzi Shabalala are hot on the heels of current Betway Premiership top goalscorer Iqraam Rayners for the golden boot award this campaign.

The Mamelodi Sundowns marksman has been in scintillating form since making the switch from Stellenbosch FC to Tshwane at the beginning of the current season.

The Bafana Bafana striker has so far netted six goals in 10 starts, aiding the defending champions to the summit of the log standings, three points ahead of Orlando Pirates who have a game in hand.

Rayner’s teammate Lucas Ribeiro is closely behind him with five goals in nine matches, picking up from where he left off in the last term.

Perhaps the surprise package of the list is TS Galaxy striker Dzenan Zajmovic who has been hitting the net regularly of late. The Bosnia-Herzegovina international has scored four times in eight outings for the Rockets which has seen them move into 10th place having been bottom dwellers at some stage this season.

In fourth spot, is Amakhosi’s young talent Shabalala, who is just 20, and has racked up four goals in 10 appearances and is the club’s top goalscorer so far this season.

AmaZulu’s in-form attacker Hendrick Ekstein has been the KwaZulu-Natal-based’s side most outstanding player lately and it’s no surprise to see him on the list with four goals in eight matches.

Tshegofatso Mabasa’s hat-trick in the Buccanners’ 8-1 annihilation of Marumo Gallants has seen him occupy sixth place with four goals in nine matches.

Another Pirates man, Evidence Makgopa, is also on four goals having featured for the Orlando outfit in eight league occasions this season.

Who do you think will eventually bag the golden boot award?
