It was a day to savour on heritage day for the Buccaneers faithful on a windy afternoon at eSgodini.
While the opening half didn’t see many clear-cut chances created with Polokwane seemingly ready to hold their low-block, things opened up in the second 45 minutes.
Pirates proved more and moved the ball quicker, finding joy on the flanks, where eventually Relebohile Mofokeng’s creativity teed up Monnapule Saleng for the opener after 55 minutes.
The 26-year-old has been in fine form of late with four goals in nine appearances so far this season, and it proved the crucial as they took control of possession again and with five minutes to go, substitute Evidence Makgopa sealed the three points with two tap-ins in the final 10 minutes.
In another professional performance for Jose Riveiro’s side they overcame a resolute Rise and Shine who arrived into the game placed second in the standings.
Pirates moved to the top of the log and are now with seven wins and two draws in their opening nine games across all competitions for this season.
