Orlando Pirates have made contact with Stellenbosch over a potential transfer of promising winger Faiz Abrahams.

Abrahams endured a turbulent past 12 months where he spent six months on loan in Israel where he impressed but returned to South Africa after going AWOL from the club.

He netted three goals and three assists in 11 games for the club but after returning, Stellies needed to pay a fee to terminate the loan or risk they player facing a ban due to breach of contract.

The 21-year-old only featured three times for Stellies under Hunt upon his subsequent return but remains in high regard due to his pace and potential shown in the DStv Diski Challenge and U20 national team, where he won the Africa Cup of Nations with South Africa.

iDiski Times have been informed the player has made it clear to club management he’d like to explore new opportunities for the upcoming season after limited first team chances since his arrival.

While the move may come as a surprise, Pirates have shown in recent seasons their willingness to take a gamble on talent, with the likes of Thalente Mbatha and Lebone Seema becoming key figures at the club, despite not being key figures at SuperSport United and TS Galaxy respectively.

Abrahams is a product of the iKamva Academy system and could link up with a former teammate in Reece Braithwaite at the Sea Robbers as they continue to invest in some of the brightest young talents in the country.
