Orlando Pirates moved within two points of Mamelodi Sundowns after seeing off Stellenbosch FC 2-0 at Athlone Stadium on Tuesday night.
The game’s first real chance fell to Oswin Appollis after being teed up by Relebohile Mofokeng in the 10th minute but his low left shot sailed inches wide.

Mofokeng then linked up with Patrick Maswanganyi two minutes later inside the box but he miscued his shot at goal.
Stellies were lucky not to be a goal behind in the 26th minute after pressure on the hosts saw Godswill Enninaya forcing a save from his own keeper Sage Stephens, to prevent an own goal.
The deadlock was broken three minutes before the halftime as Evidence Makgopa rose high from a set piece and head past Stephens to make it 1-0.
Three minutes later it was 2-0 to the Buccaneers with Maswanganyi getting his goal for the evening.
On his 100th appearance for Stellies, Genino Palace was inches away from pulling one back in the 77th minute after a beautiful cross from Devin Titus. Sipho Chaine however came out tops with fingertips and the shot to direct then onto the upright.
The second period did not offer much as the Buccaneers went into a defensive mode while Stellies tried to get back into the game much to Pirates’ resolute at the back.
It was almost 3-0 in the 90th minute when youngster Cemran Dansin cut in from the left and rattled the woodwork with a powerful shot with Stephens well beaten.
Abdeslam Ouaddou’s charges held on to leave the Mother City with maximum points.
