Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi has been confirmed safe and unscathed after a traumatic hijacking incident on Thursday.
On Friday morning it was communicated by the Intelligence Bureau SA that the Pirates stopper was hijacked in Thokoza, Ekhulerleni and held hostage at the time.
iDiski Times reached out to Pirates in which Media and Communications Officer Thandi Merafe confirmed the South Africa international has returned safely.
“Yes, it is true. Our Goalkeeper Mr. Melusi Buthelezi was involved in a high jacking last night. The player is safe and unscathed,” she said.
“As a Club, we are happy that he is safe and unharmed, and further like to make an appeal that Melusi be given space to recover from this traumatic ordeal.”
The 25-year-old who joined the Buccaneers in the off-season has featured 13 times for the club, keeping eight clean sheets.
The towering goalkeeper was also involved in a separate hijacking incident in Soweto, which took place in February 2022 whilst still at TS Galaxy.
