Pirates Start Post Riveiro Era With A Draw

Orlando Pirates started their post Jose Riveiro era with a 1-1 draw with TS Galaxy at Orlando Stadium in their Betway Premiership clash.

Their was not much changing in terms of personel from interim coach Mandla Ncikazi who said there wasn’t time to chop and change and alter the line-ups, while praising the excellent work of Riveiro who received a heroes send off at the same arena mid-week.

The Spaniard is set to be unveiled by Al Ahly in the coming hours, and while he’ll be remembered for his iconic three-year stint, there wasn’t much to remember from the fixture in Soweto with Bandile Shandu’s goal looking like the difference.

His tap-in after the hour mark, set up by Mohau Nkota wasn’t a goal for the ages, but with both sides showing great desire for three points, they nullified each other for most of the game.

Pirates came into the game knowing Sundowns already secured the title with a game to spare this week, but conceded a late equaliser in the 94th when Mpho Mvelase slotted home.

The Buccaneers missed out on a new club PSL record of 19 wins, and now sit on 56 points, while TS Galaxy secured a top 8 finish.
