PLK Municipality Break Silence On Seshego Stadium Debacle

The MMC [Member of Mayoral Committee] for Sports at the Polokwane municipality Jerry Mamabolo, has expressed disappointment at the suspended Betway Premiership match between Magesi FC and Chippa United at Seshego Stadium.

The game on Tuesday was a first professional fixture in over 20 years after the venue was renovated and approved by the PSL to be able to host professional matches.

But the power went off twice, first in the opening two minutes and it took about 30 minutes for the game to resume then after 20 minutes power went off again, leaving both clubs to agree that the game be suspended to be resumed on Wednesday at midday with the score tied at 1-1.

Mamabolo says tests were done leading to the match and before kick-off of the game as well, adding that they will investigate what really happened.

“We are very displeased about what happened tonight and we are investigating what might have caused whatever happened tonight,” Mamabolo told reporters in Seshego.

“The lights going off during the game and they went off once again when the game continued after the first shutdown.

“Our wish as Polokwane [municipality] is to make sure that we take these games to our townships and is to make our people happy. But what happened today shows us that there is still a lot of work to be done, and we shall, by all means, investigate and give a full report of what really transpired tonight during the game of Magesi and Chippa United.

“That is what we are saying, that is our comment. We’re going to be here all night just to see whether these lights will go off again. It’s been long since power has been restored and the game has stopped, but as you can see, the lights are still on.

“So we will be here up until late in the evening just to detect what happened. Then we’ll give a full report in that regard.”
