Bafana Bafana star Relebohile Mofokeng has revealed when he first found out about his move to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.
The 21-year-old was unveiled by the Belgian club shortly after Bafana Bafana were eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
He is back in South Africa for a short break before returning to Europe to join his new teammates for pre-season ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
Mofokeng revealed that he had known about his move to Union Saint-Gilloise three matches before the end of the 2025/26 season.
“[I knew about it] before the World Cup, I knew maybe three games before the season ended,” said Mofokeng during the interview with SNAWA on Metro FM.
‘Why Belgium…’
He said he believes playing in Belgium will help him develop further and serve as a stepping stone to bigger leagues in Europe.
“As a young player, as a growing human being, you want to go to a place where you’ll grow and develop,” he added.
“So, I think it’s the best place where I can develop myself and move forward. It’s a great start in Europe.
“It will develop me and help me grow as a person. Yeah, I think they will make me a better player and person and from there maybe I can get a bigger deal in Europe.
“So, it’s a very good step for me.”
