Brazilian forward Lucas Ribeiro has penned a farewell message to Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa following his departure from the Spanish club.
The 27-year-old leaves after the side suffered relegation to Spain’s third tier, bringing an end to his brief spell with the club.
Ribeiro has been strongly linked with a return to Mamelodi Sundowns, although his exit from the Betway Premiership champions was the subject of controversy.
The Brazilian terminated his Sundowns contract in August last year despite having a deal that was due to run until 2028.
His representatives at Belgian law firm Dupont-Hissel relied on the Diarra ruling by the Court of Justice of the European Union, arguing that he was entitled to terminate his contract and obtain an International Transfer Certificate without Sundowns’ consent.
In his farewell message, Ribeiro said he leaves Leonesa with gratitude, describing his time at the club as a short but memorable chapter that will stay with him forever.
“The time has come to close another chapter of my journey. Today I say goodbye to this club that welcomed me and became part of my history,” said Ribeiro.
“I want to thank from the bottom of my heart to all the fans, who have always stood by me, in good times and in the most difficult times. Your care, support and trust made all the difference and will never be forgotten.
“To my teammates, technical committee, staff, and to the wonderful friends l’ve made along this journey, thank you so much for every moment lived, for the laughter, for the lessons learned, and for everything shared.
“You guys made the experience even more special Leaving with a heart full of gratitude and memories that I will carry me forever.
“I wish the club much success and may the future be full of achievements.
“Thanks for everything.”
