Mamelodi Sundowns forward Lucas Ribeiro Costa returned to training with the club today and expressed his joy after winning four major honours at the 2025 Premier Soccer League awards.
Ribeiro, 26, scooped the PSL Footballer of the Season, Player’s Player of the Season, Golden Boot and Goal of the Season award after an incredible campaign where he featured 51 times with 35 goal contributions across all competitions.
He also won the Goal of the Tournament for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup for a spectacular individual effort against Borussia Dortmund to cap off a special season for the Brazilian forward who was lured to the club from SV Beveren in Belgium in 2023.
“It was a very good season, the team played very well, not an easy season with so many games but I’m very happy to take these trophies, individual trophies, but I don’t play alone, it’s the squad that I have with me, my teammates, the supporters, the coaches,” he said.
“The coach put my level very high as with the other players, I am very happy – I like all the awards, everything is important to me, Player of the Season, everything is important to me, it was a crazy season – all four is important.
Ribeiro has been subject of major interest from abroad for his dazzling displays for Masandawana, with Fluminense believed to be in talks with the club over a potential move to the Brazilian Serie A side – a team they were grouped with and reached the semi-finals of the global event this month.
But according to the club’s media department, he was present at Lucas Moripe Stadium this afternoon as the squad prepares for the MTN8 showdown against Richards Bay on Sunday afternoon.
“Training today was good, I’m very happy to be at training, I’m back for training with the team, happy to see the players, the coaches, I’m very happy to be training today,” he said.
“Very important game, support us, please give everything as you did last season, push the guys, the players in the pitch, it’s important, it’s a good game on Sunday, so Masandawana help the team, push the team for the win in this game. Vamos, vamos.”
