Shocking news has hit the local football fraternity as Oshwin Andries has sadly passed away.
The young defender, who had come through Stellies youth ranks, is understood to have been stabbed this past week and passed away on Saturday, with information about his untimely passing scarce at this moment in time, but confirmed to this publication.
Stellenbosch FC have since released a statement on Andries’ untimely passing on Saturday evening.
The lanky midfielder, who was born in Stellenbosch, covered as a centre-back. He captained the national under-20 team at the recent internationals.
Andries made his first team debut this season against Orlando Pirates. He captained the Diski team to the DStv Diski Challenge Championship last season and his star was on the rise.
He scored his only goal in the eight games he played in their 3-1 over Royal AM.
Andries would’ve turned 20 in three weeks on the 24th of February.
We, at iDiski Times, would like to express our condolences to Andries’ family, friends, everyone at Stellenbosch FC and the football fraternity as a whole.
South Africa has lost a diamond, who had his whole life and career still ahead of him.
