Riveiro Addresses Pirates Contract Situation

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has insisted now is not the right time to make a decision about his future at the club, despite his current contract expiring by the end of this season.

Riveiro has silenced all his doubters, winning five trophies in his first two-and-a-half seasons at Orlando Stadium.

He recently celebrated his 100th game in charge at the club and the Buccaneers have had a record-breaking start to the 2024/25 campaign, winning their first seven league games for the first time ever.

With everything going well at the moment, there have been calls from the clubs fans to hand Riveiro a new contract, but the Spaniard remained coy when asked about the topic by Robert Marawa.

“It’s a good question, an important one probably for many people,” he said on Radio 947.

“I’ll give you the standard answer, which is – I’m sorry to disappoint you and disappoint your listeners as well – now we are in a very important point of the season, we are in the fifth month, we are not even in the halfway…

“It’s true that my contract is ending in the end of the current one [season] and probably there is going to be a moment where we can sit down and have that conversation, and let’s see what happens after that.

“Right now is a moment to stay together – team and fans to enjoy the moment because we worked so hard to find ourselves in the situation we are in now, which means nothing, it’s just seven games in the league, we are very, very close to start the group stage in the Champions League, we are really motivated for this competition, where we can test ourselves in a very high level.

“We have to really grab this moment with all our strengths, and we are in the football business, we never know what’s going to happen in the future but like I said there is going to be a moment where going to talk about it [my future] and to be honest about it with ourselves and see what’s coming.”
