Riveiro Not Giving Up On League Title

Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has labelled his side’s victory over Polokwane City in the league as an extraordinary result especially in relation to the title chase.

Pirates narrowly defeated Rise and Shine 1-0 at the old Peter Mokaba Stadium to reduce the gap at the top of the table to 12 points with three games in hand. The Buccaneers are also still competing on all fronts including the CAF Champions League and the Nedbank cup as well.

On the league title race some have said log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns are as good as gone but the coach who will leave Pirates at the end of the season emphasized that for him they will compete until they absolutely don’t have a chance or to the very end.

“Nobody can question that we’re not trying in each and every game,” Riveiro answered iDiski Times when asked about the significance of the win in Polokwane.

“I mean we are not giving up in any competition. We want to win, no matter what happens, no matter what the opponents do, we’re going to try to be at the level that we must be in each and every game and everything.

“Until the numbers, the mathematics tell us that you know you cannot continue going up we will try until the end, until the last day, if it’s possible.

“So we knew that today we were about we played already a final, and is the same for the remaining games.

“It’s going to be the same because we know how difficult it is to be at the top in this league but again, we’re going to try our best, till the end.”
