Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has shared his thoughts on the injury-time penalty his side received against Kaizer Chiefs in Saturday’s Soweto Derby.
The Buccaneers picked up an important three points to keep pace with Mamelodi Sundowns in the title race, thanks to Patrick Maswanganyi’s last-minute panenka penalty.
Riveiro said after the match that he hadn’t seen the replay yet, but from the sidelines it looked referee Masixole Bambiso made the right call.
“Even though I think the result is fair, it’s a reflection of both performances in my opinion. It was not a 5-0 performance,” he told the media.
“But I think that Pirates was better on the day. It’s a 0-0 game, the game should’ve finished 0-0.
“Without that penalty – I didn’t see the penalty [replay] yet, but I think from the bench it looked like two penalties actually from the defender and the goalkeeper…”
