Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has insisted he is not fazed about becoming the most successful coach in Soweto Derby history, as he could equal Stuart Baxter’s record this weekend.
The former Kaizer Chiefs head coach is the most successful derby coach in the Premier Soccer League era, winning five games against their bitter rivals.
But Riveiro is hot on Baxter’s tail, as he has registered four wins in league matches in the derby, including the last three.
However, the Spaniard insisted he is not looking at records or statistics but only the now, trying return to winning ways after back-to-back defeats against Pyramids and Sekhukhune United.
“Nothing at all in that sense. I mean we’re looking for a victory because it’s a must for us, it’s a must for our fans, it’s a must for our club – same way that it is for Kaizer Chiefs,” he told reporters.
“That’s the important thing in a derby. We’re going to celebrate a massive football day one more time.
“The stats are fine with something that we will have a look maybe, at least myself particularly, in 20-25 years hopefully.
“Now it means nothing. The important thing is to get the three points, to come back to the winning track after a couple of not good results in different competitions.”
The first of back-to-back Soweto Derbies kicks off at 15:00 at FNB on Saturday before both sides will meet again in the Nedbank Cup final next weekend.
