Mamelodi Sundowns secured a hard fought 1-0 win over an impressive TS Galaxy outfit at Loftus Versfeld on Wednesday evening.
With Kaizer Chiefs drawing level with Sundowns after their 4-1 thumping of ORBIT College yesterday, the reigning champions were out to send a signal of intent at home against a Galaxy side they have found a tough opponent in recent times.
And it was just that, with both sides having plenty of chances, and while Sundowns had a goal incorrectly ruled out – after the referee on the night pulled it back for a foul, Galaxy could have scored three, had it not been for their lack of composure inside the area.
Ronwen Williams was also in inspiring form on the night making a several crucial interceptions and saves to keep eighth clean sheet across all competitions this season.
It took until the hour mark before the deadlock to be broken – as substitute Arthur Sales got the better of Ira Tape, who too, was in menacing form for the Rockets.
The win moves Sundowns three points ahead of second-placed Orlando Pirates who beat Golden Arrows 1-0 and have two games in hand over Masandawana, while Chiefs are in third with one game in hand.
