Mamelodi Sundowns striker Arthur Sales has expressed his relief after finally scoring his first goal and also paid tribute to Lucas Ribeiro for allowing him to take the penalty.
Sundowns smashed a club transfer record when they brought in the Brazilian striker in a reported R62 million fee in the off-season from Belgian club SK Lommel where he scored 18 goals with five assists in 50 games.
Upon his arrival, Sales found the going tough scoring just once with two assists in 11 appearances in all competitions. On Saturday, Sales finally got the monkey off his back slotting in a 49th-minute penalty as they cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win.
Speaking via a translator, the São Gabriel da Palha-born marksman admitted that he needed the goal to boost his scoring confidence going forward.
“He says he’s happy for the award, for the three points and needs this one for the confidence,” Sales told SuperSport TV after the match.
