Former Maritzburg United forward Leletu Skelem is pleading for a second chance at his former club Stellenbosch FC.
Skelem started his professional career at the Cape Winelands side in National First Division back then.
He gained promotion with the side and he was one of the key players. After a few season after gaining promotion with Stellies he then went to join Maritzburg in a deal that saw Judas Moseamedi going the opposite direction.
Things didn’t work out well for the 26-year-old as he played few games and sustained more injuries.
That resulted in him being offloaded by the team of choice. Sunday during a press conference after Stellenbosch’s 1-1 draw against Mamelodi Sundowns, Steve Barker mentioned doors are still open for Skelem and they are willing to help me but he will have to help himself also.
The Motsepe Foundation Championship winner spoke with this webiste as he mentioned that he is training alone and he is defiantly willing to join Stellies if he can be given a chance.
Skelem also mentioned that he is working on his fitness and sharpness as he wants to return to his form.
“I’m training alone, doing some work in the gym, doing some more agility and speed some conditioning and strength on my own but on some days I work with my trainer that is helping me Wednesdays and Tuesdays,” Skelem told iDiskiTimes.
“I thought of going back to Stellenbosch when I left Maritzburg United, I thought that okay, I must start again a new life with Stellenbosch and build on it and hope to get an offer.
“Now I have just read an interview with Stellies coach that the doors are still open for me to come back and be the Skelem I use to be.
“Being given second chance by your former team is a blessing and I highly appreciate that coach Steve did mention that I can come anytime, I can contact them and they will organize something for me to work on my fitness. Even if the club wants to assess me before I am willing to do so.”
