Kaizer Chiefs are said to have agreed to sign Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman but Cape Town Spurs, who have been relegated to the ABC Motsepe League have ordered the players to return for pre-season.
The promising attacking duo have long been touted for major moves in the top-flight and Chiefs have won the race for their services but face a fight with Spurs who claim both are still under contract.

Liam Bern, is another in limbo with Spurs, having signed for AmaZulu – with all their contracted players, as of 1 July, seeing their contracts dropped down to amateur status, meaning the iKamva-based club in current status are no longer a member of the National Soccer League.
It’s believed that the players have terminated their contracts as per the status of Spurs and in line with FIFA and NSL and the South African Football Association (SAFA) rules, all players involved in SAFA competitions are deemed amateur as per rule 13.1.
Rule 4.3.1.4, in the NSL handbook states; a player may apply to the dispute resolution chamber (DRC) to be declared a free agent in the event of the member club ceasing to exist as a member club falling under the jurisdiction of the league.
The NSL rules also state the entity which is the current club and its members current directors cannot within 12 months buy another franchise, which is likely the attempt of the club with keep hold of their key players.
Should a potential status purchase transpire – this new entity – under new new directors – would contractually have no hold on the current players.
It marks another interesting twist in the transfer saga, with both Velebayi and Baartman meant to officially join the club this week.
