Stellies Announce ‘Field Of Dreams’ Plans

Stellenbosch Football Club have confirmed a major long-term partnership that will see the redevelopment of the Van der Stel Sports Complex into a top-tier multi-sport facility.

The club’s proposal was accepted by the Stellenbosch Municipality, paving the way for a collaborative effort with the ACE Trust and the Open Play Foundation. The agreement grants Stellenbosch FC the rights to manage and develop the complex over an initial 30-year term, while ownership of the property remains with the Municipality.

According to a statement released by the club, the planned upgrades include the construction of a 5,000-seat stadium (upgrade to 10000 in future), four full-size grass football fields built to international standards, six small-sided multi-purpose fields and courts, and a dedicated sports high school catering for 200 learners.

The project represents a R395 million investment over five years and is set to become a key pillar in the club’s long-term vision for youth development and community engagement in the Cape Winelands.

“We are grateful to the Municipality and the community of Stellenbosch for the opportunity to manage and develop this landmark complex over the next 30 years,” said SFC CEO Rob Benadie.

“The Van der Stel Complex is the ideal home for the town’s football club, and SFC is privileged to bring the excitement and benefits of professional sport to the facility.”

“As responsible and trusted citizens, our shareholders, partners and the club are investing in the Van der Stel complex with a long-term vision for a brighter future in Stellenbosch. We believe sport is the empowering catalyst for progress, inclusive economic growth and opportunity, creating lasting value in a public asset for generations to come.”
