Mamelodi Sundowns went down 1-0 to Ukrainian giants Dynamo Kyiv in their pre-season friendly at the Sportstadion Wörgl on Wednesday evening.
After their 2-1 loss to SV Sandhurst on Tuesday, a much-changed side lined-up against Kyiv who fielded a full-strength side on the day.
While Sundowns lacked their usual fluency and crisp passing synonymous with the club in recent seasons, their lack of game time and training was evident.
For the returning Bafana Bafana players, it was their first fixture since the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe and it came as no surprise when Bamba Diallo opened the scoring just after 20 minutes slotting the ball past Jody February.
Sundowns created several chances in the second half, the best of which landed to teenager Kutlwano Letlhaku, but his effort went just wide of the post.
Dynamo had several chances on the counter as Sundowns looked to get back into the game but failed to capatalise on clear-cut chances with the Brazilians’ defence and Febraury holding firm.
The likes of Siyabonga Mabena, and Kobamelo Kodisang received some much-needed minutes in Sundowns colours which could be a sign of things to come as the side evidently has played with more width than during the Rulani Mokwena era.
