DStv Premiership champions Mamelodi Sundowns stretched their unbeaten run to 19 league games after their 0-0 draw against Swallows at Dobsonville Stadium on Sunday.
The champions were up against a Swallows side who won three of their last six games in their quest to retain their top-flight status and showed them respect with a formidable starting line-up with Haashim Domingo, Sipho Mbule and earning starts over Cassius Maulila and Themba Zwane aside from their regular eleven.
However, it was an uninspiring first half with very few clear-cut chances besides a near-mistake from Grant Kekana when his back pass was intercepted by Evans Rusike – but was quickly recovered by the Bafana Bafana defender.
There was also a return for Gaston Sirino to action, who last featured in January due to an ankle injury – and with over 70% possession, camped inside the Swallows half, he was expected to help them unlock some inspiration in the final third along with fellow substitute Abubeker Nasir.
However, they were unable to help Masandawana break down the stubborn defence from the home side as they moved four points from safety away from Marumo Gallants and Maritzburg United.
Meanwhile, Sundowns are 18 points ahead of Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United who occupy second and third place respectively.
