Mamelodi Sundowns have provided a positive update on defender Rushine de Reuck who lost consciousness after scoring against TS Galaxy on Tuesday evening.
The Bafana Bafana defender rose highest to head home a corner past Melusi Buthelezi but suffered a clash of heads in the process and immediately fell to the ground upon landing.
After a prolonged period of treatment, the former PSL Defender of the Season was stretchered off the field of play and replaced by Brian Onyango.
But the club’s head coach Rulani Mokwena has waved away concerns over any long-term problems as he avoided needing to be hospitalised after the incident at Mbombela Stadium.
“Rushine is on his feet, it’s very good that he regained consciousness and the medical team deserves to be given a lot of praise, both from Mamelodi Sundowns and TS Galaxy for the prompt response,” Mokwena confirmed in the post-match press conference.
“It’s good to see he’s walking and he’s gained consciousness – I just saw him in the changing room, so very good. He scored a very important goal for us, which opened the game a bit.
“We’re just grateful that he’s in a good condition to recognise his surroundings now and very proud of his contribution to the win.”
The 26-year-old has featured in 17 out of a possible 26 games for Masandawana this season across all competitions.
