SuperSport Get Revenge On Chiefs In Polokwane

SuperSport United secured a morale-boosting 1-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs in their league clash at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.

After losing 4-0 just seven days ago to the same side in the Carling Knockout, the running narrative during the week was that the game was not a reflection of the scoreline.

Vincent Pule stated they were determined to redeem themselves when they host Chiefs at the same venue and that they did.

Despite not dominating possession, Hunt’s side which had eight changes to his starting line-up took their chance, which came via Tashreeq Morris, netting with aplomb just inside the area a couple of minutes before the break.

The towering striker and graduate of the famed iKamva Academy nearly grabbed a memorable second from his own half but his effort flew just wide of Fiacre Ntwari’s goal, who was off his line.

Chiefs had a couple of half chances, with attacking talisman of this season Gaston Sirino having a muted evening and being replaced with more than 30 minutes to go by Mfundo Vilakazi.

But Nasreddine Nabi’s side, who have earned plenty of plaudits for their fluid attacking style of play, were unable to get themselves back into the game and suffered their second defeat of the season, after the 2-1 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns at home.

The win saw Gavin Hunt’s troops move into ninth place, with seven points from six games, one point ahead of Amakhosi who have played two games fewer in the league.
